Meet Kim, our Mom of the Month and recent addition to the FIT4MOM Eastside team! Kim is a Seattle native who currently teaches in Bothell.
Where are you originally from?
I grew up in Seattle, in the Maple Leaf neighborhood.
When did you join FIT4MOM?
I joined FIT4MOM in 2012 when my first child was 9 months old.
What classes do you attend?
I attend Stroller Strides and Stroller Barre on a regular basis, and I recently started Body Back!
Who is your workout buddy and what is their age?
My daughter Lydia (18 mos) comes with me and generally has a great time. She likes to do her "exercises" with my bands after class. My other daughter, Lainey (5 yrs), is usually in preschool, but when she comes she really enjoys playing with the other kids after class.
What is your favorite thing about FIT4MOM?
I like working out with women who are in the same stage of life as me. People who I can relate with who have a lot of the same struggles and successes. I also love getting a great workout and being a good role model for my children.
How has FIT4MOM changed your lifestyle choices?
As a mom, you're focused on taking care of your family so much of the time, and I feel like FIT4MOM helps me to focus on taking care of myself and making better health choices.
What is your current job? Or what did you do before staying at home (if you don’t currently work outside the home)?
I'm currently a stay at home mom and a Stroller Strides instructor in Bothell. Before my kids were born I was a massage therapist for over 10 years. I worked in spas and at chiropractic offices. In L.A. I worked with a personal trainer going to homes (mostly mansions) where she taught private yoga and pilates, and I did sports massage.
Share your thoughts on the concept of “it takes a village” – is it important for moms to join a village?
I feel like we often have a connection through social media, but being face-to-face and spending time with other moms and kids is an important part of feeling connected for me. The more I talk with the moms in Our Village the more I find out we're all going through the same struggles and some of the same successes as we watch our children grow. We are all just trying to make it work in the best way we can.
What is your favorite beverage?
Favorite drink is called a Medici. It's a dark chocolate mocha with orange peel on the top. As for adult beverages, I'm still all about the lemon drop martini. (I know, it's so 2002.)
What is your favorite dessert?
Flourless chocolate cake.
You are given 4 hours of FREE babysitting. What would you do?
A yoga class and then a 90-minute deep-tissue massage.
What is your ultimate child-free vacation destination?
I would love to visit Barcelona. Or for something a little more adventurous, maybe go to Cuba.
How has becoming a mother changed you?
I value quiet time and free time much more. Even my bathroom trips aren't usually solo anymore :)
I am happiest when...
When I'm getting out of the house and exploring new restaurants, outdoor festivals and new kids activities.
