Get to know Ariana, a Michigan transplant, mom of two boys, and fitness inspiration!
Where are you originally from?
I am originally from Flint Michigan. I moved to Seattle with my husband in 2014 and we moved our family to the east side last year.
When did you join FIT4MOM?
I joined FIT4MOM in February of 2016.
What classes do you attend?
Who is your workout buddy and their age?
My workout buddies are Gabriel (5) and Elliott (17 months).
What is your favorite thing about FIT4MOM?
My favorite thing about FIT4MOM is the feeling of belonging. I was nervous about starting a new workout program with other women. I was honestly afraid of being judged or not being able to keep up. I wasn't sure I would be received well by an already established community and tight knit group of friends. But right from the beginning I have been made to feel welcomed and encouraged on my journey to a healthier lifestyle. This is a group of strong women, wonderful mothers and great friends. I am so happy I made the choice to join FIT4MOM!!
How has FIT4MOM changed your lifestyle choices?
I was out of shape before I first started FIT4MOM, I was also suffering from postpartum depression and anxiety. My doctor recommended that I try and make lifestyle changes for myself, but I needed help. I joined FIT4MOM hoping to get the motivation I needed. After starting Stroller Strides and then Body Back, my life changed drastically. I was making healthier choices, losing weight, getting stronger, I also had more energy and I began to feel happier with myself, inside and out. It's one of the best decisions I have made since having my children.
What is your current job? Or what did you do before staying at home (if you don’t currently work outside the home)?
Before Elliott was born I was a Financial Analyst for a vehicle manufacturing plant, now I am a stay at home mom (which is way harder!!)
Share your thoughts on the concept of “it takes a village” – is it important for moms to join a village?
It's been difficult moving 2,000 miles away from everyone I know. When I had my first son in Michigan I had my entire family for support, but after moving to Seattle I was virtually alone. I spent over a year with no friends and no help. I knew I was a good mom, but it didn't feel like it was enough. Then I joined FIT4MOM, and it clicked. I found out that I don't have to do it alone. I needed support. I needed other moms to talk to, I needed encouragement from other women, I needed advice from other parents. I needed to vent my frustrations to someone that could relate, I needed an occasional 'moms nights out', I needed a drink with a friend, and I needed a good booty kicking workout. Yeah I could do it alone, but I found out through this community that I didn't NEED to do it alone. I found a place where I could communicate with other mothers and get the support I needed. I found a home.
What is your favorite beverage?
I love red wine and salted Carmel mochas!
What is your favorite dessert?
You are given 4 hours of FREE babysitting. What would you do?
I would get a massage and take a nice long nap in a big fluffy bed with clean sheets.
What is your ultimate child-free vacation destination?
I would love to travel through Europe with my husband. England, Rome, Italy, Ireland, France. Travel and see the beautiful sights and eat all the wonderful food we can.
How has becoming a mother changed you?
Being a mother has taught me compassion, patience and how to function on very little sleep. It has filled me with a love greater than anything I could ever imagine. It has brought out my greatest strengths and has given my life a deeper meaning. Being a mother is the best and hardest thing I have ever done and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
I am happiest when...
I am happiest when I am surrounded by the people I love. My favorite days are the days I spend just enjoying quality time with my family and loved ones.
