FIT4MOM Eastside Mom of the month

Mom of the Month - Kari Ketner

Meet Kari and her little girl Addison! Kari works part-time, and still manages to make it to Stroller Strides 3 or more times per week!!!!

Where are you originally from?

I am from Seattle. I went to college in California, but moved back after graduating to be closer to my family.

When did you join FIT4MOM?

I joined in May 2017 when Addison was 6 1/2 weeks old.

What classes do you attend?

I attend Stroller Strides classes in Bothell or Woodinville and sometimes Redmond on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and most Saturdays.

Who is your workout buddy and their age?

My workout buddy is Addison. She is 8 months old.

What is your favorite thing about FIT4MOM?

I love being able to workout with my baby girl and spend time with other moms. I used to go to the gym regularly to attend classes pre-baby, but now that would be challenging due to my work schedule and my desire to spend time with my family. I also really appreciate Our Village and the community of moms/families. It is great to commiserate with other mamas about parenting challenges (e.g. sleep training) and share fun stories about our lives.

How has FIT4MOM changed your lifestyle choices?

I was physically active pre-baby, but FIT4MOM has allowed me to return to fitness with a great balance of exercise, socializing, and mommy & me time. I'm working to prioritize self-care which includes exercise, healthy eating habits, and reduced stress.

What is your current job? Or what did you do before staying at home (if you don’t currently work outside the home)?

I am an occupational therapist, certified hand therapist, and professional bowen provider. I am currently working part-time, which has been a great balance for me.

Share your thoughts on the concept of “it takes a village” – is it important for moms to join a village?

Yes! I definitely believe it takes a village to raise a child. It is valuable to join a community of moms who can help support you as you face challenges/joys of parenthood. It is feels great to share ideas of what has worked for us in the past or present to empower other moms to succeed in this journey of motherhood.

What is your favorite beverage?

I'm currently loving hard cider.

What is your favorite dessert?

I love tiramisu or Molly Moon's ice cream (two of my favorite flavors: vanilla bean and lavender).

You are given 4 hours of FREE babysitting. What would you do?

I would definitely get a coffee and pedicure/manicure, then take a nap or read a book uninterrupted. :)

What is your ultimate child-free vacation destination?

I would choose somewhere to relax on the beach with my husband - we love Maui. I would also love to travel to Italy's Amalfi coast to enjoy the sights and delicious Italian food.

How has becoming a mother changed you?

Caring for others has always been in my blood, but becoming a mother has made me even more selfless. Motherhood has taught me to appreciate the small moments and live life more in the moment instead of over-planning for the future. ;) My daughter has also helped me to prioritize my life goals including making sacrifices to spend more time with my little one. I definitely took my free time for granted before having a child, but I could not imagine my life without Addison in it.

I am happiest when...

I'm with my family - husband, baby girl, and our cat, Kobe. I love exploring places with them as well as spending time at home relaxing. My life has slowed down a bit since Addison's arrival, but I think it is for the better.
