Fit Foodie Friday: Protein Smoothie

My son, Luke, will be turning 5 in February, and like many kiddos, can be very opinionated when it comes to food. :)

He tends to avoid most things that contain protein, with the exception of beans. In an effort to up his protein, Luke and I worked together to create a basic smoothie that is packed with protein and tastes like a berry milkshake. It’s great fun that we can make this smoothie together and he sees how this healthy breakfast or snack is created. If you don’t have hemp seed, no worries and just leave it out. For the mixed fruit, try to have a sweeter fruit such as mango or pineapple. Make sure there’s no added sugar. It helps add a little bit of sweetness to the smoothie.

Good luck and solidarity mamas..... our kids will eat someday, right!?!? ;)

  • 1/2 c plain, nonfat Greek Yogurt
  • 1 c frozen mixed fruit (I use Costco frozen mango and pineapple)
  • 1 T hemp seed
  • 1 c milk
  • Small handful of spinach
